Our Candidate Forums provides professional, fair, and non-partisan forums for electoral races in Thursday County. Our forums are produced by Thurston Community Media and follow a question-and-answer format with a moderator and a timer. All candidates for a position are invited, asked the same questions, and have the same amount of time to respond. The League does not support or oppose parties or candidates at any level of government.
Candidate Forum Format
The forums will use a question-and-answer format. Each candidate will have one minute to respond to each question and all candidates will be asked the same question.
Questions will be asked in reverse alphabetical order by last name, rotating with each question.
Each candidate will have an opportunity to make a 1-minute closing statement.
There will be a timer in view of all participants, which will turn yellow when 15 seconds are left, and red when the time is up.
Candidates may take notes through the program; and may bring prepared notes to refer to during the forum.
Guidelines for Candidates
No campaign materials may appear during the forum, including placards, pins or clothing.
Candidates may not use any visual props or exhibits during the forum.
Candidates shall conduct themselves with civility, and refrain from leveling accusations, charges, or attacks of a personal nature, or that are irrelevant to the office.
Candidates will address their answers to the audience and will not address their opponents.
Each candidate must sign a waiver and consent form allowing the League to use audio recordings and images. These will be available at the League information table on the day of the event. The document is attached.
