The purpose of The Voter is to provide information that is accurate and timely, encourages member involvement, and aligns with state and national League positions and policies. We are committed to compliance, in principle and practice, with the League’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy. The League does not support or oppose political parties or political candidates.

Content may be on any topic that relates to the mission and purposes of the League, although we are most likely to accept articles that provide three things: very brief background information on a current topic or activity, relationship of topic/activity to voting or community member decision-making, and the related actions readers of The Voter can take. We also welcome post-event articles that emphasize actions taken.

It’s best to avoid repeating phrases and sentences written by someone else unless you credit the original author, since in the U.S. authors and other creators own their work as soon as it is created. The same goes for photos and images. If you plan to send us materials someone else created, including materials found online, please consult first with the newsletter coordinator.

Our philosophy is that less is more – more likely to be read to the end. Articles generally should be no more than 250 words although we sometimes can flex to about 300 words. If articles are longer than that, we may publish the first couple of paragraphs with a link to the full article. (If your article is long, make sure the most important information is in the first paragraphs because many readers don't use the link to access the full article).

Text sent to us may be edited before publication. The newsletter coordinator(s) in consultation with the LWVTC president, leadership team, or their designee(s) make final decisions regarding content.

Please include your name. We may publish your name as the author of an article unless you specifically ask us not to do so. Information about an upcoming event is not usually attributed.

Please check with individuals before including their names in your article, to remind them that newsletters are digital and may be shared with people who aren’t members of the League.

Sent one article per attachment so we can accurately track articles and avoid missing submissions.

Put photos and images in separate jpg (JPEG) files, if you can, and clearly label each file to
indicate the article it should accompany.

Don’t spend time needlessly! Newsletter production will go most smoothly if you refrain from heavy formatting of your submission, including italics and bold text. Original formatting has to be stripped out as part of the process of creating the newsletter in the software we use (Club Express). Text with images placed at the beginning or end works best at our end.

Please don’t send materials to us in PDF format 

We sometimes can publish photos. Before you take a posed photo of people, or a photo that is
not in a public place (perhaps in someone’s home or yard), please make sure those shown
approve of their name and photo being published in digital format and on the League website!
And send us the names of people in the picture. The photographer’s name also may be published, so
include that as you would like it to appear. You also may want to consider taking photos in such a way
that the people in them can’t be identified (over the backs of heads, etc.). Remember to send us the
photograph as a JPEG (jpg), if possible, and in its own file identified to connect with the article you’d
like it to accompany!

Please consult with the newsletter coordinator before sending photographs that depict people age 18 or younger, or their artwork, writings, etc. Thanks.
